Chez Tezza

Australian Bushwalking, Mountain Huts, Bush Poetry and Photography.

Welcome!

Posted by admin on April 20th, 2008

Hi.

As the above suggests my name is Tezza. Welcome to my siteā€¦.hope you enjoy it.

Cheztezza was started in 2005 and was originally purely a photographic record of huts I had encountered on my bushwalking and cross country trips starting back about 1968, mainly in KNP (Kosciuszko National Park). I wanted to put these photos up as a lot of these old huts have since been victim of neglect, removal or destruction by fire (especially in 2003). Most were built and used by hardy stockmen (in the old days of summer alpine grazing), others by hydrographers, ski clubs and various other people. Finding a hut at the end of a hard day’s walking or skiing is very satisfying.

Since 1986 two mates and I have done an annual week-long bushwalk, mainly in KNP, but some in the Victorian High Country. We call ourselves The FARTS ( Fellowship of Artful Rambling as a Therapeutic Science) (also known as The Fine Art of Restaurant Touring in the Snowies, referring to the quality of the food and wine we used to lug around on our trips).

(Please note: FARTS have always carried tents and all equipment needed to be self reliant and safe in the bush. We enjoy camping out under the stars as much as we sometimes love the “comfort” of the huts).

So I have decided to post some photographic memories of our FARTS trips along with some of our “Bush Poetry”, many composed in the glow of a camp fire or the stillness of a lazy bush afternoon.

Under another tab you will find some of my own favourite photos.

Comprehensive information on huts can be found on the Kosciuszko Huts Association site at

Enjoy.

Hi. It’s now Sunday June 2, 2013 – some years since I started this site. Recently it has been out of action as the site was hacked and rendered unworkable. I plan to update Cheztezza very soon and add some more recent hut photos. Also I hope to reinstall the Guestbook that the site had originally – this was also wrecked by hackers. Back soon.

December 24, 2013: The site has been repaired and I am in the process of updating it with recent hut photos. I have also added an album of photos relating to Mount Jagungal, which for me is the place on this earth where I yearn to return to.

Just to stand on the top of Mt. Jagungal and wonder at the beauty of the wilderness all around, and also to wonder at who has stood there over thousands of years before me, revitalises me.

If you wish, you can contact me via the Contact tab. The Guestbook has not been reinstated.

Thanks.

Hi to all visitors to this site and thanks for visiting over the years.

I’m told the inner workings of this site are out of date and obsolete, and the site needs a whole new rebuild. So until that happens the photo galleries are not functioning. I’m sorry for this and hope to get the site revamped and renewed as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Hi once again. Thanks to my brilliant son this site has been updated as promised. There are a few minor hitches but they will be fixed soon. Please feel free to leave comments or queries if you wish to. Most of all get down to Kosciuszko National Park and walk in the back country and you will be revitalised. You never know what the future will bring – there may be huge tourist buses wandering around there one day. So hurry up!

Just come back from a week in the Snowies on a walk. Weather maybe a little too warm. The dead snow gums still dominate the scenery. It’s going to be a very very long time before it returns to what it looked like pre 2003. Still it was great to be walking down there with my son.
